My favourite spaces to design are adaptive reuse of historic buildings with new additions. Many of these buildings were constructed with techniques of fine craftsmanship that have been lost over the years and thus would be either very expensive or nearly impossible to replicate today. What role does heritage architecture have in a city? Heritage buildings are like windows into the past. They help us imagine what life was like for our ancestors who used those buildings every day. There are not too many traces of the past that are as visible and accessible to the public as heritage structures. They tell a story without saying a word, yet somehow demand our attention.
