At 1 Marlborough, our firm was retained to provide the architecture and interior design. Rising above the historic 1930s Pierce Arrow building, the project is conceived as an architectural landmark that bridges heritage and contemporary design. Guided by our Human Architecture philosophy, the building establishes a thoughtful dialogue between past and present, honouring its legacy while introducing refined modern architecture.
At street level, the original Pierce Arrow façade is carefully restored, revealing its rich stone and brickwork, decorative cornices, and the distinctive guardian gargoyles that once defined the historic structure. The building’s iconic arches are reopened, bringing natural light back into the former showroom and revitalizing the retail frontage.
Above the heritage base, a new 13-storey addition introduces clean lines, smooth masonry, and contemporary arches that echo the language of the original building. Gradual setbacks and terraces soften the building’s profile and provide ample outdoor living space.
Along Marlborough Avenue, the building transitions into a townhouse scale, providing a gentle shift toward the surrounding residential character of Summerhill.
The suite interiors are conceived around generous scale and livability, prioritizing the openness and comfort more commonly associated with single-family homes—qualities that are increasingly rare in contemporary condominium living. Complementing the residences, the amenities extend this same sense of ease and refinement featuring warm woods, natural stone, and refined craftsmanship come together to create luxurious spaces that support wellness, connection, and everyday convenience.
Together, these elements form a timeless residential address that honours its heritage while enriching the character of the neighbourhood.
