Penthouse at the Hazelton

Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, the penthouse suite at the Hazelton Hotel offers a striking contemporary addition to one of the most premier hotels in the country. Audax returned the space to its original shell and provided design services for a full renovation, resulting in a more open and light-filled layout. The 4,100 sq. ft. living space is a beacon of luxurious modern design, intended to suit the needs of its owners, and to house a private gallery collection.

Natural light and shadows cascade through floor to ceiling windows and a thick threshold of colonnades. Knife edge details surround the suite’s perimeter, where the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces are obscured. Repeating linear walls direct the overall rhythm of light and also function as shadow boxes to showcase unique works of art.

The material palette is comprised of honed Tundra Grey marble, along with wood, charred in the Japanese process known as Shou Sugi Ban. Light and dark oak, finished with a brushed texture, further accentuate the natural textures and grains of the materials. Each finish throughout the home was carefully selected to echo the interplay of light and shadows that animates the suite.

While preserving the essence of carefully choreographed contrast, the suite incorporates bespoke Molteni & C furnishings, luxurious pieces from Liaigre, and a Henge dining table accented with sand-cast bronze details. The result is a carefully curated and timeless design.
