Audax was approached to design a fifteen-story hotel in the heart of one of Toronto’s most vibrant neighbourhoods—King Street West. With the patchwork of new development applications being proposed for the neighbourhood, Audax has taken a measured approach, creating a design that doesn’t try to compete with the surrounding context but instead creates a harmonious relationship with it. The architectural language is derived from the two-story heritage building, upon which the hotel will sit while the upper stories of the building are designed with expansive glazing and large overhanging canopies to provide shade, while allowing for optimal natural light to enter the interior office spaces.
